Background

From the beginning, Michelle Vellucci’s love for dance exceeded her actual talent as a dancer, which is why she became a writer. She started her journalism career covering the police beat for a daily newspaper, but after two years of reporting on murders, assaults and accidents, she defected to the arts & entertainment section and never looked back. In the decade since then, her work has appeared in Dance Magazine, The Brooklyn Rail, People magazine, Columbia Journalism Review, am New York, and many other publications. A former editor of Dance Teacher magazine, Michelle currently works for New York City Center as a communications associate. In 2009, she was a recipient of an NEA dance criticism fellowship.
